Biosketch

Dan is responsible for the overall strategic direction and implementation of CFP Board’s communications program – including corporate and consumer communications, social media, stakeholder communications and media relations, serving as the organization’s spokesperson.

Dan is part of a team that manages CFP Board’s $11 million/year Public Awareness Campaign, which is an integrated advertising and public relations effort to raise awareness of the CFP® certification. He also oversees CFP Board’s Consumer Advocate and CFP Board Ambassadors programs, which are focused on raising awareness of financial planning and CFP® certification. Additionally, Dan provides communications counsel to the CEO and Board of Directors, message development, issues management and crisis communication counsel when needed.

Dan has also taught public relations at George Washington University and Howard University as an adjunct professor.

Before joining CFP Board, Dan worked in senior positions at strategic communications firms including Powell Tate and Burson-Marsteller. Previously, Dan was communications director for Congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) and a journalist, last writing for The Washington Times, where he covered the Virginia statehouse and transportation.

Dan is involved with his community, currently serving on the Fairfax City Council as an appointed member until mid-September 2017. Previously, he served on the Fairfax City Council (non-partisan) from 2008-2014.
